Holidays

If you are travelling with a child with coeliac disease, there are some things you can do to ensure a stress-free trip!

  • If holidaying abroad, we can provide translations of various gluten-free phrases to make communication easy. You might also like to contact the coeliac society in the country you are visiting and ask if they can send you some information.
  • It can be useful to take a few food items with you. If you are taking gluten-free products in your luggage, it can be helpful to take along a doctor's letter confirming diagnosis and the reason for the food.
  • If travelling by air, gluten-free meals are available on some airlines and should be ordered at the time of booking (don’t forget to order one for your return journey).  However, despite campaigns by Coeliac UK, airline meals remain a bit hit and miss.  It is always wise to have a snack, sandwich or snack pot in your bag just in case.
  • If you are going on holiday with other people, you can label items that are gluten-free to ensure that no-one else eats or contaminates them.
